How to brief an animation studio (with a checklist)

A good brief gets you a more accurate estimate, fewer revisions and a better video. Here is exactly what to include.

Start with the job of the video

Before style or length, write one sentence: "After watching, the viewer should..." Sign up for a trial. Book a consultation. Understand the procedure. Everything else in the brief follows from that sentence.

The ten-point checklist

Copy this list into an email and fill it in:

  • 1. The one thing the viewer should do or understand.
  • 2. Who the viewer is, and what they already know.
  • 3. Where the video will be shown: website, ads, sales calls, events.
  • 4. The length you have in mind, or "not sure".
  • 5. Two or three videos you like, and what you like about them.
  • 6. Your logo, brand colours and fonts.
  • 7. Any script, slides or notes you already have.
  • 8. Must-say facts, claims and legal lines.
  • 9. Your deadline and any fixed launch date.
  • 10. Who gives feedback and who gives final approval.

What you do not need

You do not need a finished script, a storyboard or animation vocabulary. Writing the script is part of every Animio project, and your producer will translate "make it feel premium" into style frames you can react to.

Send it and get an estimate

Send your brief through any form on this site or by email. A producer reads it, asks any questions, and sends a recommended style, a timeline and a fixed written estimate before any work starts.

Ready to make some noise?

Tell us what you are making. A producer replies with a style, a timeline and a fixed estimate.
